Thousands of people came to the city centre on Saturday to watch the annual Gloucester Day procession pass through the gate streets.

The origin of this events goes back to the Civil War when, in 1643, residents celebrated the lifting of the siege of Gloucester. This year, we celebrated the inauguration of the new Mock Mayor of Barton, Ismael Rhyman.

The mayor-making ceremony took place at the Cross followed by a Gloucester Day thanksgiving service at St Mary de Crypt Church. Among the entertainment line up this year were historical re-enactors, Morris dancers and Britain’s Got Talent contestants, Jive Aces.

As the organiser of this event, I would just like to thank everyone who took part as well as all of the people who came to watch.
