Yes, folks – it’s that time of year again! One of my favourite annual events is the Covent Garden Rent Ceremony, and this year it took place on Thursday 20th June.

It marked my 10th year as Town Crier at the event, having taken over from Peter Moore in 2009. The celebration itself has been running since 1994, and for me it always marks the start of summer! As usual, we celebrated the peppercorn rent tradition by delivering apples and flowers to many of the oldest buildings in the area. We then marched around Covent Garden to magnificent tunes provided by the famous brass band.

The Lord Mayor of Westminster and Deputy Mayor of Camden were in attendance, and I acted as Master of Ceremonies. We had a good jolly after the ceremonials, too, I can tell you that! Here’s to the Covent Garden Rent Ceremony 2020.
