The weird and wonderful occasion that is the Covent Garden Rent Ceremony took place on Thursday 23rd June and, as usual, I led the procession along with marvelous jazz band.
We made our merry way round Covent Garden to pay the Peppercorn Rents to the properties known as The Protective Lands. The Rent Ceremony is one of my favourite events to attend, and each year more Londoners turn out and join our parade. It’s a magnificent part of the city’s history and I take pride in marching with the band every year.
The first Rent Ceremony took place in 1994 and it’s great to see the tradition still going strong. I’ll be back marching with the infamous jazz band in June 2018 when the 14th annual Rent Ceremony gets underway.
