As we near the end of 2020 our thoughts have very much turned to Christmas and the festivities it brings. While we’re all used to Christmas markets, parties and big festive parades, it’s fair to say that this year has been a little different.

Usually in November, we’d have a good ol’ Gloucester gathering, parades of lanterns and a festive sing-song, this year’s Christmas lights switch on was rather a quiet affair. In mid-November, the lights were simply switched on, with no public events or gathering to celebrate. Due to COVID-19 restrictions it was decided that the usual parade would be cancelled this year, in favour of a quiet flick of the light switch.

The people of Gloucester are welcome to come and see the lights at their own leisure, this way nobody will be put in a position of risk. The streets will still be full of Christmas joy all through December and, who knows, maybe Santa will be able to visit nearer the big day!
