I had a very important role at this year’s Tudor Day… awarding knighthoods to the great and the worthy in my home city of Gloucester.

The event, held on Saturday 19th April, was organised by The Folk of Gloucester museum and the Gloucester Civic Trust. Many of you will know that the Folk of Gloucester is housed in a fine example of a Tudor-period building and the event – At home with Henry VIII – was designed to celebrate the building’s unique history.

Visitors had the chance to enjoy a day of historical reenactment, music, workshops, displays and demonstrations plus, of course, the well-behaved could meet King Henry VIII (AKA yours truly!) and receive a knighthood.

Along with demonstrations of Tudor weaponry, wood carving, sewing and willow weaving with Victor the Benedictine Monk, there was even some Tudor-inspired food for visitors to sample.

The Folk of Gloucester is a charity and relies on donations for the upkeep of the building so a big thank you to everyone who visited on the day.
