With news of the pandemic taking over, it’s important not to forget that another momentous event happened as the clocks struck midnight on New Year’s Day. Yes, after years of negotiations, Britain finally left the European Union.

While I know it’s quite a divisive topic, I feel now is our time to grasp this opportunity to promote the best of our country. We all need to navigate our way through this so we can benefit from the changes ahead. It’ll come as no surprise to realise that I’m using this time to be as patriotic as I can, so here’s a reminder of the wonderful, typically British characters you can call upon for any virtual or real-life (COVID-19 permitting) event:

 –  Toastmaster: ready and primed with the finest announcements and introductions, I’m a dab hand at playing toastmaster at any event

–  John Bull: the personification of England, this typically English chap likes to proudly display his Union Jack waistcoat

–  Victorian Policeman: a typically British policeman from yesteryear who likes throwing his weight around and telling everyone who’s boss

–  Dr Watson: of Sherlock Holmes fame, this assistant and narrator is a classic gentleman of the Victorian-era

–  Yeoman of the Guard: dressed the part and quick to react, all in the name of protecting Her Majesty. My Yeoman of the Guard is proud to be the Queen’s very own bodyguard.

– Beefeater: a ceremonial guardian of the Tower of London, nonetheless. None shall cross this Beefeater’s path.

– Admiral: one of the highest ranking Naval officers of the sea. Ohhh Arghhh me ‘arties!
